Happy Independence Day!

I love holidays!  There are different things that I love about each one.  Every time the 4th of July rolls around I think about the opportunity that I had in high school to visit Washington D.C.   This weekend I pulled out my photos from that trip and just reminisced about our Nation’s Capital, the history that developed it and the beautiful sites that I saw.

Craig and I started our weekend with a phenomenal concert…The Beach Boys!   I feel like The Beach Boys are one of those rare bands that can bridge the gap between generations.  I love them, my parents love them and my grandparents love them.  Growing up my dad would always play either The Beach Boys or The Beatles while we did our Saturday morning cleaning.  We went with a group of some of our closest friends and I wish I would’ve brought more than just my camera phone to take pictures!    Craig and I danced and sang at the top of our lungs.  The next day I barely had a voice  😀

Craig and I wanted to go to the ‘Freedom Fireworks’ at the Logan stadium but weren’t able to go.  Instead we went up by my parents house and watched the fireworks from there.  It was nice to not have to battle the cajillion cars and people that would’ve been at the stadium.

We also had a BBQ with our friends and then today another one with Craig’s brother.  I love the grill.  Being married to Craig, who served his mission in Texas, has shown me how much he REALLY loves BBQ’s.   This year Craig and I decided to purchase fireworks.  He had so much fun lighting each one off.

I wanted to practice various light painting activities.  This photograph was using a whole bunch of glow sticks hooked together and then swinging them over and over and over.

We also tried light painting with sparklers in various patriotic themes.

Of course we had to try arial fireworks since they just became legal in Utah.  Craig had so much fun lighting this specific firework because he had to sprint away as fast as he could.  We were even sprinkled with a little of the firework debris.  Next year I say we save money from not buying ground fireworks and only buy arial fireworks!

I hope you had a wonderful Independence Day weekend!  I know I did!
