I don’t normally photograph weddings but I really enjoyed photographing Liz & Matt’s wedding. Liz was one of my employees at Maceys and so was Matt. 🙂 It was fun to watch their relationship blossom. This was a beautiful day at the Logan Temple for the Skabelunds and for me to celebrate my friends next step in life. I’m really excited to show the rest of their wedding pictures. Most of all, congratulations Liz & Matt!

Time goes by much faster than I think it should! It wasn’t too long ago that I was photographing this little girl’s newborn pictures.  I am still in awe that Miss Austin is now one!  I love these sessions and how exploratory children are in this stage.  I’m amazed at how fast little ones catch on to our nuances, voices and facial expressions.

Austin was ready for her nap sooner than mommy or I expected. Children determine when our sessions end. When they’re done, they’re done. This is one important principle that I ensure parents understand before we ever go into a session.  At the end of our session I was able to make several beautiful portraits of Austin with several thought provoking expressions.  I can’t wait to show more of her session!

Often in the photography world (and I’m sure in other professions) people view others who are going in the same direction as competition. One of the best things I have done for myself was to develop close photographer friends in my community. We went to WPPI together this year. We chatted throughout our conference, car rides and spare time. We talked a lot \about our photography business and goals. The best part? We gave each other ideas, sincere critique, brainstormed as a group and became great friends.

Several times a month we have been getting together to help each other on our business goals. We recognize that we each have different strengths and areas of specialty. We want to help each other embrace the best parts of each of us. There is no competition, backstabbing or cruel judging. We genuinely want to see each other succeed.

Since the Cache Valley weather has finally started to level out, we decided to take our usual evening together to make portraits of each other. I really loved seeing these ladies put their great skills to work.

Meet Kristin. She loves to photograph engagements, weddings and bridals. (which I’m excited to be her second shooter later this summer at a wedding!) Kristin will naturally find beauty in anything and anyone. She has this infectious laugh that puts you to ease and makes you smile.  Kristin has a really clean and classy design style. I love going to her home and seeing how it is decorated.

Meet Cindy. Cindy just barely moved to Twin Falls, Idaho and I already miss her lots and lots.  She is this down to earth country girl. She is incredibly humble and one of the most sincere and genuine people I know.  Cindy is really resourceful and can find a use for anything. The three of us ladies are nerdy when it come to cooking and baking.  Cindy is always coming up with great recipes I need to try soon!

Chelsea
, the fourth gal of our group, lives in Tooele and we rarely get the chance to have her come visit us in Logan. (including this specific photography night, we missed you Chels!) I am grateful for Skype, Twitter, Email and Facebook as a way for us to chat with her. Chelsea is really tech savvy and has introduced our group to new things that we love! She has recently re-branded her business and it was a pleasure to talk to her about all of these changes. It has been great to have someone to chat with as I’m in the middle of my own branding changes.

These ladies, my dear friends, are beautiful inside and out. I enjoyed being able to capture them the way that I see them.

Spring is a refreshing time of year. In Cache Valley you never know if you’re going to find snow, rain or sunshine. I had my camera out for several days in a row wanting to photograph these beautiful tulips for my hue and texture challenge. The first day I went out and the weather in Logan was 32 degrees with extreme wind, the next day our lovely Logan weather was full of sheets and sheets or rain. The third day was perfect for being out with my camera! I love the beautiful soft tones of these spring tulips.

I had the opportunity to photograph the Wall family in St. George last month. I was really excited by the red rock and change of scenery. We had fun hiking, climbing and playing in the beautiful St. George canyons.
When I photograph a family I always like to get pictures of the family together, all the ladies, all the gentlemen, the parents and then each person individually. I love the way that these images would look together on a wall collage!
I’m excited for this post to also debut my new logo! I had a great opportunity to work with an amazing designer which I will blog about a little bit later. There will be a little bit of dust as I make some changes with my photography blog, family portraiture website and look.
