I loved meeting Jennifer, Dakota and Shane Swenson!  Every photo  session starts with a session consultation.   I want to learn more about each family member.  I learn their hobbies, interests and most importantly what they like to do together as a family.   After my phone consultation with Jennifer and Shane I was really excited to meet this family in person.   One reason I absolutely love being a family photographer is because I love to capture the way a family interacts with each other.   My photo sessions do have some direction in where to stand or how to pose.  Honestly, we spend most of our time having fun and just being natural.  During this session we laughed, played, went exploring, learned some new knock knock jokes and had a darn good time!   I had such a fun time photographing this family.

See this handsome little guy?  I officially gave him a new nickname that his dad just giggled and giggled about: Dakota Muffin.  I don’t remember exactly what I was teasing Dakota about but Shane thought I said ‘Dakota Muffin’.  For the rest of our photo session he was my little muffin man.   He was definitely a ham in front of the camera.

I’m really excited later on to show you the many faces of Dakota.  I have never met a child more animated and full of life than this little guy.  I loved it when he told me that he wanted to be Iron Man when he grew up. I’m also excited to show you his Iron Man costume that he’s planning on wearing for Halloween this year.    This is one of my favorite images from our session!

  • FAQ: Session Consultation. What It Is And Why You’ll Love It! » Belinda Olsen Photography - […] Yesterday I mentioned how I have a pre-session consultation with all of my clients.  I love to have a consultation whether this is your first of fifth session with Belinda Olsen Photography.  Today I want to go into a little bit more detail about what a session consultation is and why you’ll love it (and why I love it too!). Our consultation is usually 20-30 minutes and can occur over the phone, Skype or in person at your home or while I take you out for ice cream, smoothies or a pastry.  This is a great opportunity for us to meet before our session and allows me to prepare for your custom session.  I want to ensure that your session is stress free of you.  This is a time that you can relax, have fun and be yourself. I had a fun opportunity  last week to be a second shooter for my friend, Kristin Brown, at this beautiful wedding.  The wedding ceremony was held at the Mount Timpanogas Temple.   Taylor & Tyson were great to work with!  All day long they exchanged the most beautiful glances, full of love.  It made me smile just to be around them.  We were fortunate enough to have  beautiful weather and absolutely wonderful vendors.

This day had a lot of great dancing!  First, were Tyson’s siblings doing an absolutely hilarious and very entertaining dance.  Halfway through their dance they recruited the wedding couple to be a part of their dance.

The next set of dances were beautiful and actually made me cry.  (I’m a sucker for weddings!)  Taylor & Tyson had their first dance together.  I love how Taylor and Tyson looked at each other, it was as if there was no one else in the room with them.  The second dance that I also thought was extremely beautiful was watching Taylor dance with her Dad.  During the luncheon his toast was all about the love of a family and his love for his daughter.  It was beautiful!

I loved the details of this wedding.  Everything from Taylor’s ring, bouquet, cake and favors were handcrafted with great thought and attention to detail.  I loved the way her color scheme came together!

One of my favorite things about living in Logan is that there are so many beautiful sites in Cache Valley.  As a photographer I am inspired by many of them.  There is one location that I find myself going to often.   I walk around it, photograph it, have a photograph of it located in my home.  I think it’s one of the most beautiful locations you can go to in Northern Utah.  I wonder if you can guess where it is…  I’ll give you a hint: it’s in the heart of downtown Logan.

Logan Utah LDS TemplePINIMAGEAnother hint: it’s located on a beautiful Cache Valley hill. The rock to make it was hauled from the Temple Fork area in Logan Canyon.  This beautiful building is over 127 years old.

Here it is:  The beautiful Logan LDS Temple.  I love how you can see it from almost anywhere in the valley.  One of my favorite views is entering Cache Valley through Sardine Canyon.  The Temple is the first thing I always look for.  When I see it, I know I’m home.  This location has been where several significant moments in my life happened.  My parents were married here,  my husband proposed to me here and my husband and I were married here.  Special times!

I love holidays!  There are different things that I love about each one.  Every time the 4th of July rolls around I think about the opportunity that I had in high school to visit Washington D.C.   This weekend I pulled out my photos from that trip and just reminisced about our Nation’s Capital, the history that developed it and the beautiful sites that I saw.

Craig and I started our weekend with a phenomenal concert…The Beach Boys!   I feel like The Beach Boys are one of those rare bands that can bridge the gap between generations.  I love them, my parents love them and my grandparents love them.  Growing up my dad would always play either The Beach Boys or The Beatles while we did our Saturday morning cleaning.  We went with a group of some of our closest friends and I wish I would’ve brought more than just my camera phone to take pictures!    Craig and I danced and sang at the top of our lungs.  The next day I barely had a voice  😀

Craig and I wanted to go to the ‘Freedom Fireworks’ at the Logan stadium but weren’t able to go.  Instead we went up by my parents house and watched the fireworks from there.  It was nice to not have to battle the cajillion cars and people that would’ve been at the stadium.

We also had a BBQ with our friends and then today another one with Craig’s brother.  I love the grill.  Being married to Craig, who served his mission in Texas, has shown me how much he REALLY loves BBQ’s.   This year Craig and I decided to purchase fireworks.  He had so much fun lighting each one off.

I wanted to practice various light painting activities.  This photograph was using a whole bunch of glow sticks hooked together and then swinging them over and over and over.

We also tried light painting with sparklers in various patriotic themes.

Of course we had to try arial fireworks since they just became legal in Utah.  Craig had so much fun lighting this specific firework because he had to sprint away as fast as he could.  We were even sprinkled with a little of the firework debris.  Next year I say we save money from not buying ground fireworks and only buy arial fireworks!

I hope you had a wonderful Independence Day weekend!  I know I did!

One of my favorite flowers that can be seen all over Cache Valley in the summer are beautiful poppies.  I was very excited as I was near the Logan LDS Temple and saw this beautiful poppy field!  This was the perfect setting to make unique, seasonal portraits with Miss Sophie.  This little toddler loved being in the flowers but especially loved my little white Ikea chair that I take with me to many of my child and family portrait sessions.

I love the curiosity that children display.  Miss Sophie delicately handled a flower that she was handed not really sure what to think of it.  Like all little children who are exploring new items,  she put the flower in her mouth.  I was laughing so hard at her reaction of the yucky flower that I couldn’t hold my camera still to even take one photograph!  It was a priceless expression!

After trying to eat the flower Sophie smiled in defiance that her parents told her not to put the flower in her mouth and she still did.  I love this coy little smile.

I love photographing children!  I love how carefree, happy and easily amused they are.  Children bring me such great joy to interact with!

  • Mallory Gregersen - I love this! Great work! I am looking in to getting family pictures done this year and comparing prices right now. How much do you charge? Also, do you release the printing rights? And when are the poppies in bloom?? I absolutely love this!ReplyCancel
